Because Nobody Told Him

And the bird might know

Because nobody told him

And the rain might fall

On the chord that he’s holdin’

And the sun might break

On his feathers and beak

And the wind might ache

When it’s cloudy and bleak

And the drops might free him

When monotony stirs

May be feeling lost

Needing cause for a cure

And he may just stand

With nobody to hold him

And he might feel free

Because nobody told him

He lifts his wing

I catch his eye

‘Cause birds and things

May do more than just fly

And watching lives

Without interpretation

Can lead to conclusion

Assumed

Wrong causation

And he might sing

Thinking someone will hear him

And he might scream

When nobody is near him

But he might climb

For the hills to unfold him

And he might be at peace

Because nobody told him

He may bring sticks in to build his own house

And you might put up wire just to keep him out

And you claim it’s yours to protect and to keep

And he stands on the chord with no place to sleep

And he might hate it or he might love it

And you might think that you’re above it

And you may scare him

And you may scold him

And he might love you

Because nobody told him

And you may give all you have to his charity

And you may watch him and hope it brings clarity

And you may wish you were him

Just to soar

And you may wish that your thoughts just meant more

And you may bring him the best things you own

And you may offer your heart and your bones

And you may name him and treat him

all golden

And he may hate you because nobody told him

And he may want things

Dream things

Know it

And he may conceal wisdom

Never even show it

And he may gaze down

and look at the street

And he may gaze up

and pray for retreat

And he may wander

And he may fall

And he may ponder while perched on the wall

And he may do something

Or he may do nothing

And he may just trick you

Without ever bluffing

And he may be lonely

With no cast to mold him

Or he may just love it

Because nobody’s told him
